Concrete and Glass

For this body of work, I wanted to push my 'urban landscape' visual vocabulary further by focusing on the elements that I have been neglecting in my previous work. As I've been developing my art practice over the years, I have directed all of my attention towards the buzzing neon signs, the glowing billboards, the spot lights, the streaks caused by car headlights in long-exposure photography, and I haven't paid very much attention to the physical structures themselves.

I've become interested in the way that the mirror-finish on so many of our high-rise buildings breaks up and distorts the image it is reflecting. I thought about how this distorted image-within-an-image is similar to the way I manipulate my source material before I begin painting; but these distorted reflections are happening accidentally in my urban environment, rather than as conscious decisions on my part.
